US Congressional Screening of Free China--The Courage to Believe

It's a film of a former Chinese Communist Party member, and a US businessman. While the events in "Free China: The Courage to Believe" took place half the world away in China, those who attended a congressional preview in Washington DC on Thursday were moved.

[Katrina Lantos Swett, Chairman of US Commission on International Religious Freedom]:
"Of course Jennifer your story had so moved, in tears, and I got so inspired."

NTD co-produced the documentary with award winning director Michael Perlman. It shows how two Falun Gong practitioners, Jennifer Zeng and Charles Lee experienced and overcame persecution by the Chinese regime.

US Congressman, Chris Smith has pushed and championed calls to end the Chinese Communist Party's human rights violations against the spiritual group and all oppressed people in China.

[Chris Smith, US Congressman]:
"There is hope and I know that this film will convey that hope. Falun Gong and freedom loving people in China will bring about that new day when China is free and human rights are respected."

Congressman Smith urges senior US policy makers to understand the level of oppression in China through the documentary.

[Chris Smith, US Congressman]:
"There's no doubt in my mind that if policy makers at the US department of the state, in congress, houses and senate, even the president of the United State, and Secretary of the state Hilary Clinton. They need to watch this to really get the gravity of the oppression that is all encompassing that is spread by the propaganda machine of Chinese agenda. It needs to be pierced. We need to know the truth. We are dealing with the oppressors. We need to stand with the oppressed."

Free China has won several film awards this year, including the inaugural Free Speech International Film Festival Award in Philadelphia.
